How can science, technology, engineering and mathematics help learners explore the challenges facing their communities? STEM4ALL-CENTRES, a new Erasmus+ project expected to start in January 2027, will connect inclusive STEM education with practical learning on sustainability, climate change and artificial intelligence.
Running for 36 months, the project will bring together schools, universities, communities, public authorities and employers to create learning opportunities grounded in real-life questions and shared local challenges.
Five centres connecting learning and communities
STEM4ALL-CENTRES will establish five STEM Education Centres operating as Living Labs in Greece, Spain, Italy, Türkiye and Portugal. These centres will provide spaces for learners, educators and local stakeholders to work together, investigate challenges and explore possible solutions.
Through this approach, the project will promote critical enquiry and practical experimentation, helping students connect STEM subjects with the world around them.
Inclusive learning through real challenges
Activities will focus on sustainability, climate change and artificial intelligence, encouraging learners to ask questions, assess evidence and apply their knowledge in meaningful contexts. Inclusion will be central to the project, with particular attention to learners who are underrepresented in STEM.
Over its three years, STEM4ALL-CENTRES aims to:
Engage 3,000–4,000 students in practical STEM learning activities.
Train at least 200 teachers to support inclusive, challenge-based learning.
Strengthen cooperation between education providers, communities and employers.
Develop a sustainable model that can support wider adoption of the STEM Education Centres approach.
Skillman’s contribution
Skillman will help turn teacher development into recognised learning opportunities. It will contribute to the project’s three-level professional development pathway—Foundation, Practitioner and Facilitator—with responsibility for integration into the Skillman platform and the issuing of digital badges and micro-credentials.
Working with the project’s educational partners, Skillman will support alignment with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) and contribute to the documentation needed for recognition within teacher development systems.
Skillman will also help adapt the learning approach for vocational education and training, contributing to guidance for transferring project resources to VET and special educational needs settings. Through the Skillman international network, it will share resources and results with education and training organisations, supporting their wider use beyond the pilot schools.
Building a model for lasting change
By connecting education with community priorities, STEM4ALL-CENTRES aims to make STEM learning more accessible, relevant and participatory.
Alongside the learning activities, the project will develop guidance on the governance and sustainability of STEM Education Centres. Evaluation and cooperation with public authorities will help identify how the approach can continue beyond the project and inform wider educational practice.
Further updates on the project’s launch, activities and opportunities to get involved will follow.
