About the Skillman Ethical Skills Awards

The Skillman Ethical Skills Awards recognize and celebrate examples of excellence in activation of ethical skills in the field of the advanced manufacturing across environments and cultures.

Overview

Founded by the Skillman Network, the Awards celebrate innovation in Ethical Skills Activation around the globe. Each year, award recipients comprise a showcase demonstrating through ideas and concrete cases how successfully activation of ethical skills is possible.

Entry to the Awards is open to all schools, companies, individuals and students until 10th of September of each year

Participation is free of charge.

Once the call for entries has been closed, the Skillman Scientific Committee’s members select the best ideas and concrete examples.

Selected entries are publicly awarded during the Skillman International Forum and become a permanent part of the Skillman Ethical Skills Awards Yearbook.

To enter a candidature you’ll need a few simple but important things:

Information about you and/or your team

Who you are, where you live/work/study, and how we can contact you (email, postal address, telephone).

A video with information about your approach to the activation of ethical skills

Create a video, up to 4 minutes in duration, answering these questions:

  • what is the problem that the candidature wants answer to?
  • which ethical skills do you aim to activate?
  • how do you do it?
  • what resources are necessary to implement your method?

A picture of the person submitting the proposal and if is for an institution, its logo too

A rational composed of the same questions of the video

  • who are you and eventually the institution you are representing?
  • what is the problem that the candidature wants answer to?
  • to whom the skills activation is addressed?
  • which ethical skills do you aim to activate?
  • how do you do it?
  • what resources are necessary to implement your method?

Evaluation criteria

Each submission is evaluated along the following dimensions:

  1. Problem Definition: Does the candidature expresses a clear and deep understanding of the problem? Is there a clear pain-point the idea is addressing? Is the societal need clearly articulated? Does the candidature understand the ecosystem that surrounds the problem?
    • 5 = The candidature has clearly defined the problem and demonstrates a deep understanding of how the idea fills the need
    • 3 = The candidature is clear on the problem, but not articulate on how the idea meets the need (or vice versa)
    • 1 = The candidature is unclear or demonstrates a limited understanding of the problem
  2. Target Definition: Does the candidature defines well the targets? Does the candidature expresses a clear understanding of its targets’ needs?
    • 5 = The candidature has properly identified and clearly defined the target, reaching out and listening to a range of potential stakeholders in effective ways, learning from their experiences, and making significant adjustments when necessary.
    • 3 = The candidature has conducted some discovery and has made some adjustments based on what they have learned.
    • 1 = The candidature has not conducted significant (or effective) discovery about the target and its needs.
  3. Method Definition: Has the candidature clearly defined a method or a solution to a problem? Is the value proposition clear? Does the method addresses a clear pain point and the needs of its defined targets?
    • 5 = The candidature has a clearly-defined solution that is well matched to target needs.
    • 3 = The candidature has a clear solution, but is not clear on how it meets the needs.
    • 1 = The candidature has unclear method definition.
  4. Innovation: Is the solution distinctive or fundamentally different from existing approaches? Could the solution viably be implemented and sustained in the real world? Would the solution inspire people to support it – and you?
    • 5 = Breakthrough innovation that potentially changes how impact is achieved; generates enthusiasm and support.
    • 3 = Moderately innovative; different but not game-changing.
    • 1 = Interesting idea, but not fundamentally or distinctively innovative.
  5. Sustainability: Has the candidature developed a plan for the sustainability of its innovation? (For this competition, sustainability means the ability to continually generate revenue to sustain the operations of the implemented method.)
    • 5 = The candidature displays a solid plan to make the operations sustainable.
    • 3 = The candidature has thought about how to make the operations sustainable, but still has significant gaps in its plan.
    • 1 = The candidature does not have a viable plan for how to sustain the operations.
  6. Potential for social impact: Does the candidature clearly defines a societal problem? Does the solution demonstrate the potential to change how impact is achieved? Does the solution makes life better for the target population? How much potential exists for scaling the candidature’s social impact?
    • 5 = The candidature has clearly defined the potential for exceptional impact.
    • 3 = The candidature demonstrates believable impact on a modest scale.
