This study identifies the main reasons for the adoption of Advanced manufacturing technologies (AMT) by companies and shows that the uptake of these technologies creates benefits to industrial competitiveness, growth and job creation in Europe.
Despite the benefits that AMT offer in terms of quality, costs reduction and productivity, the majority of manufacturing firms in the EU are not yet using these technologies, although there are notable differences across sectors and countries, and depending on the size of the company.
According to this study, the key obstacles to investment in AMT, e.g. finance, the availability of skills, business and technology risks, can be
overcomed undertaking a series of actions at regional, national and European levels.
