Steve served an Apprenticeship in maintenance in the chemical and textile industry at the start of his career which provided an excellent platform and foundation to change career path and migrate into a training role.
MGTS is employer-led and membership- based. It aims to be a National Centre of Excellence for Education, Training, Development and Assessment in the UK, supporting both young people and adults in the development of competences associated with engineering. It provides training and education to industry workforce in skills and knowledge associated with operation, maintenance and management of world class manufacturing, production and machinery reliant operational facilities.
Steve joined MGTS in January 1989 as a technical trainer, which he found extremely rewarding and his passion for transferring knowledge and skills stemmed from that point. In 2000, he was appointed Deputy Centre Manager for the Coventry operation, in 2004, he was promoted to the Centre Manager position. This enabled him to become much more heavily involved in course
design and development, working closely with employers to develop a range of education, training and assessment programmes especially in the field of maintenance. Appointed Operations Manager in 2013, to cover MGTS’ three operations and some 30+ staff this has provided the opportunity to liaise with employers to discuss their automation and controls training requirements which will now include the Skillman robotics portfolio of accredited units. These are exciting times as the technology in this field is moving at such a pace and MGTS and Steve want to be a part of the training delivery solution.
