Overview

The Skillman Ethical Skills Awards- Video contest recognizes and celebrates every year examples of excellence, activating ethical skills across environments and cultures.
Founded by the Skillman Network, the Awards celebrate innovation in Ethical Skills Activation around the globe. Each year, award recipients comprise a showcase demonstrating through ideas and concrete cases how successfully activation of ethical skills is possible.

The contest is open to schools, companies, individuals, and students. Send us your video!

Deadline for submission: Wednesday, November 10th, 2021.

Participation is free of charge.

Once the call for entries is closed, the Skillman Scientific Committee members will select the best ideas and concrete examples.

Selected entries will be publicly awarded during the Skillman International Forum that will take place on November 15-18 2021, and will become part of the Skillman Ethical Skills Awards Yearbook.

 

Categories

Organizations and individuals are invited to submit their ideas or cases of any kind of activity that exemplify outstanding ethical skills activations in one or more of the following categories:

  • Educational Institutions: any kind of school-related to the Advanced Manufacturing 
  • Companies: Any kind of company related to the Advanced Manufacturing
  • students and workers: any individual included in these two statuses connected with the advanced manufacturing sector 
  • teachers, tutors, trainers, education professionals etc: any individual with a role in education and training connected to the advanced manufacturing sector

 

Recognition

One winner for each category will be selected by the Committee Members of the Skillman International Forum 2020 and all winners will have the opportunity to present their ideas at a dedicated Awards Ceremony addressed at more than 500 conference attendees.
The winner of the STUDENT CATEGORY will additionally receive a 500 euros prize to be spent on the implementation of his/her ideas. 

All shortlisted candidates will also be included in the Skillman Ethical Skills Awards Yearbook.

 

What you’ll need

To enter a candidature you’ll need a few simple but important things:

Information about you and/or your team

Who you are, where you live/work/study, and how we can contact you (email, telephone).

A video with information about your approach to the activation of ethical skills

Create a video, up to 4 minutes in duration, answering these questions:

  • Who are you and/or the institution you are representing?
  • What is the problem that you want to tackle?
  • Which ethical skills do you aim to activate?
  • Which solutions are you suggesting?
  • What resources are necessary to implement your method?

A picture of the person submitting the proposal and if is for an institution, its logo too

A rational composed of the same questions of the video

  • Who are you and/or the institution you are representing?
  • What is the problem that you want to tackle?
  • Which ethical skills do you aim to activate?
  • Which solutions are you suggesting?
  • What resources are necessary to implement your method?

Evaluation criteria

Each submission is evaluated along the following dimensions:

  1. Problem Definition: Does the candidature expresses a clear and deep understanding of the problem? Is it addressing a clear idea? Is the societal need clearly articulated? Does the candidature understand the ecosystem that surrounds the problem?
    • 5 = The candidature has clearly defined the problem and demonstrates a deep understanding of how the idea fills the need
    • 3 = The candidature is clear on the problem, but not articulate on how the idea meets the need (or vice versa)
    • 1 = The candidature is unclear or demonstrates a limited understanding of the problem
  2. Target Definition: Does the candidature defines well the targets? Does the candidature express a clear understanding of its targets’ needs? 
    • 5 = The candidature has properly identified and clearly defined the target, reaching out and listening to a range of potential stakeholders in effective ways, learning from their experiences, and making significant adjustments when necessary.
    • 3 = The candidature has conducted some discovery and has made some adjustments based on what they have learned.
    • 1 = The candidature has not conducted significant (or effective) discovery about the target and its needs.
  3. Method Definition: Has the candidature clearly defined a method or a solution to a problem? Is the value proposition clear? Does the method address a clear pain point and the needs of its defined targets?
    • 5 = The candidature has a clearly defined solution that is well matched to target needs.
    • 3 = The candidature has a clear solution, but is not clear on how it meets the needs.
    • 1 = The candidature has an unclear method definition.
  4. Innovation: Is the solution distinctive or fundamentally different from existing approaches? Could the solution viably be implemented and sustained in the real world? Would the solution inspire people to support it – and you?
    • 5 = Breakthrough innovation that potentially changes how the impact is achieved; generates enthusiasm and support.
    • 3 = Moderately innovative; different but not game-changing.
    • 1 = Interesting idea, but not fundamentally or distinctively innovative.
  5. Sustainability: Has the candidature developed a plan for the sustainability of its innovation? (For this competition, sustainability means the ability to continually generate revenue to sustain the operations of the implemented method.)
    • 5 = The candidature displays a solid plan to make the operations sustainable.
    • 3 = The candidature has thought about how to make the operations sustainable, but still has significant gaps in its plan.
    • 1 = The candidature does not have a viable plan for how to sustain the operations.
  6. Potential for social impact: Does the candidature clearly defines a societal problem? Does the solution demonstrate the potential to change how the impact is achieved? Does the solution make life better for the target population? How much potential exists for scaling the candidature’s social impact?
    • 5 = The candidature has clearly defined the potential for exceptional impact.
    • 3 = The candidature demonstrates a believable impact on a modest scale.
    • 1 = The candidature demonstrates unclear or limited impact.

 

Eligibility

The ​Skillman Ethical Skills Awards are open to all professionals, students, VET providers, and companies worldwide. To be eligible for an award, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. You must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Your proposal must be original, and you must have the right or authority to submit it for review and have it published.
  3. You must be a member of Skillman Network at the moment of the submission. If you are not yet a member, register here. The registration is free.
  4. All entries must be received by November 30th, 2020, before 11:59 PM CET.
  5. All entries must be in English (English subtitles to videos are welcome too, where applicable)
  6. Read and accept these Awards rules.

 

  • Candidatures that do not meet the above criteria will not be considered for an award.

The fine print:

  • All entries are submitted through the skillman.eu online contest software.
  • You need to register to submit new entries as you like.
  • Each project must be submitted separately.
  • Once the evaluation has started, you’ll need to contact secretariat@skillman.eu to remove your project from consideration.

Terms & Conditions

Binding Agreement

In order to enter the Skillman Ethical Skills Awards (“Awards”), you must agree to these Official Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). Because the Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the Skillman Ethical Skills Awards, Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo, here acting for the Skillman Network, with respect to these Awards, please read them carefully. If you do not agree to the Terms, you are not eligible to participate in the Skillman Ethical Skills Awards. You agree that registration for the Skillman Ethical Skills Awards and/or submission of a Skillman Ethical Skills Award entry constitutes your agreement to these Terms.

Your Rights and Responsibilities

You represent and warrant that: (i) you are at least eighteen years of age; (ii) you have the right and authority to enter the submission; (iii) the submission is the original work of you or of the people and or the organizations you’ve listed; (iv) you comply with all the eligibility requirements shown above and (v) your entries do not violate any applicable laws or regulations in your country and/or state of residence and nor in Italy where the owner of the Skillman Ethical Skills Awards is resident and Germany, where the data server is resident. For any entry in which a person is recognizable, you represent and warrant that you have secured a model release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject’s parent or guardian and that you will provide it to the Skillman Secretariat – Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo, upon request. For any entries of student submissions, you represent and warrant that the work was solely produced by a student or students and that you will provide proof of student status to the Skillman Secretariat – Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo, upon request.

Skillman Secretariat – Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo’s Rights and Responsibilities

By registering for the Awards and/or submitting your entries, you give to Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo, who represents the Skillman Network, and you give to its media partners, a non-exclusive, worldwide, and fully paid-up license to use, copy, modify, distribute and publicly display such entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed (including physical exhibition or events associated with the Awards), for any educational, promotional, publicity, exhibition, archival, scholarly and all other standard Skillman Network purposes, including display on the skillman.eu website, without any attribution or compensation to you. The owner, Skillman Network – Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo, reserves the right to remove entries for any reason and without notice. All winners are notified by email.

Intellectual Property

By registering for the Awards and/or submitting an entry you represent and warrant that all components of your entries are original works, and are not derived from or infringing upon the works of others. You represent and warrant that Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo, here representing the Skillman Secretariat, is liable for any copyright or other infringement on your part or any third party’s, nor has any responsibility for any claim made by you or against you with regard to your entries. You represent and warrant that it is your responsibility to make sure you have the required releases, licenses, and clearances to submit your entries. Any intellectual property infringement or misuse will result in immediate disqualification and forfeiture of eligibility to participate in the Awards. All intellectual property rights in any entries that belong to the Entrants will remain with you, but the submissions will otherwise become the property of Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo and will not be returned after the Awards.

INDEMNIFICATION

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, YOU INDEMNIFY AND AGREE TO KEEP Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo in representing Skillman Network INDEMNIFIED AT ALL TIMES FROM AND AGAINST ANY LIABILITY, CLAIMS, DEMANDS, LOSSES, DAMAGES, COSTS, AND EXPENSES RESULTING FROM ANY ACT, DEFAULT OR OMISSION BY YOU AND/OR A BREACH OF ANY WARRANTY BY YOU SET FORTH HEREIN. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, YOU INDEMNIFY AND AGREE TO KEEP INDEMNIFIED Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo in representing Skillman Network AT ALL TIMES FROM AND AGAINST ANY LIABILITY, ACTIONS, CLAIMS, DEMANDS, LOSSES, DAMAGES, COSTS, AND EXPENSES FOR OR IN RESPECT OF WHICH Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo in representing Skillman Network WILL OR MAY BECOME LIABLE BY REASON OF OR RELATED OR INCIDENTAL TO ANY ACT, DEFAULT OR OMISSION BY YOU UNDER THESE TERMS INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION RESULTING FROM OR IN RELATION TO ANY BREACH, NON-OBSERVANCE, ACT OR OMISSION WHETHER NEGLIGENT OR OTHERWISE, PURSUANT TO THESE TERMS BY YOU. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, YOU AGREE TO HOLD Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo in representing Skillman Network, ITS RESPECTIVE DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES AND ASSIGNS HARMLESS FOR ANY INJURY OR DAMAGE CAUSED OR CLAIMED TO BE CAUSED BY PARTICIPATION IN THE AWARDS AND/OR USE OR ACCEPTANCE OF ANY AWARD WON.

General Conditions

The Awards are governed by the laws of the Italian State, excluding its body of law regarding conflict of law. All state and local laws and regulations apply. By participating in the Awards, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo in representing Skillman Network’s decisions, which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to the Awards. To the extent permitted by law, the rights to litigate, to seek injunctive relief, or to any other recourse to judicial or any other procedure in case of disputes or claims resulting from or in connection with the Awards are hereby excluded, and you expressly waive any and all such rights. You and Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo in representing Skillman Network hereby agree that the forum and venue for any dispute regarding the Awards shall be the city of Pistoia, in Italy, and the parties hereto waive any venue objections. If the controversy or claim is not otherwise resolved through direct discussions or mediation, it shall then be resolved by final and binding arbitration administered by Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services in accordance with its streamlined arbitration rules and procedures. The Arbitration and Mediation rule for arbitrator selection shall be followed, except that the arbitrator shall be experienced and licensed to practice law in Florence. The parties agree to share equally in the arbitration costs incurred. If any provision of these Terms shall be held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be contrary to law, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible, and the remaining provisions of these Terms will remain in full force and effect.

THE REMEDY FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL BE LIMITED TO ACTUAL DAMAGES, AND IN NO EVENT SHALL ANY PARTY BE ENTITLED TO RECOVER PUNITIVE, EXEMPLARY, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING ATTORNEY’S FEES OR SUCH RELATED COSTS OF BRINGING A CLAIM, OR TO RESCIND THIS AGREEMENT OR SEEK INJUNCTIVE OR ANY OTHER EQUITABLE RELIEF.
